Mr. Right Across the Street

This is my second time picking up a story by the lovely Kathryn Freeman! The first was The New Guy, and you can check out my review here!

Spoiler alert, I enjoyed it. It was a fun, flirty book, with characters that you could love. I mean, don't we all want to just fall in love with the guy who is a little too cocky, but on the inside he's a big softie?

Okay maybe not always, but sometimes!

When I came across the title Mr. Right Across the Street, I was excited to find out what kinds of romantic shenanigans would ensue. So what's this book about?

"Mia Abbott's move to Manchester was supposed to give her time and space from all the disastrous romantic choices she's made in her past. But then the hot guy who lives opposite - the one who works out every day at exactly 10 a.m., not that Mia has noticed thank-you-very-much - starts leaving notes in his window... for her.

Bar owner Luke Doyle has his own issues to deal with but as he shows Mia the sites of her new city he also shows her what real romance looks like for the first time. And when he cooks up a signature cocktail in her honor, she realizes that the man behind the bar is even more enticing than any of his creations. And once she's had a taste she knows it will never be enough!"

Cooking you dinner?

That's so 2020!

In 2021, we're upgrading to men who make us signature cocktails inspired by our incredible personalities!

But seriously how creative and romantic?

It's little romantic gestures like this one that make Freeman's stories so fun!

Freeman is a former pharmacist, now a medical writer who also writes romance. So you can say she knows her way around hearts. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a sexy hero.

With a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to buy a card (yes, he does), any romance is all in her head. Then again, his unstinting support of her career change proves love isn’t always about hearts and flowers – and heroes come in many disguises.

Makes me wonder if the inspiration for the heroes in Freeman's books comes from her husband. Those unconventional moments of love. The small ways the otherwise serious, or womanizing lead shows affection to that one special woman.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! It was a cute, romantic escape. Were the characters flawed? Absolutely! But are they lovable anyways. The best ones are! So much of this book brought me back to that first feeling of excitement and attraction. The insecurities felt real. It was a great reminder that even grown adults can feel unsure of themselves.

If you're looking for a fun romance with little twists and quirks, I recommend you pick up Mr. Right Across the Street.

And as always! My recommended book pairings!

1. A sleek cocktail shaker! All this romance with the hot owner of the bar and you'll want to try your hand at crafting cocktails of your own! I've always wanted to learn how to make a ton of different cocktails. I even once thought about getting a bartending license, in my never-ending effort to become, the hostess with the mostess. I never got around to it, but I love having a good shaker and bartending tool around for when the occasion arises. Even if I am stumbling through the cocktail recipes a bit.

You can get started too, with this sleek and sexy Viski Professional Heavyweight Cocktail Shaker, available at Sur La Table.

2. A good vodka! You've got your brand new professional shaker and you're ready to make drinks. But how? One thing I've learned is that it's hard to make a bad drink when you've got a good alcohol as your base. So I want to share with you my absolute favorite vodka, St. Roch Cucumber Vodka from Seven Three Distilling in New Orleans, LA. This is the smoothest vodka I have ever had, and it is so cucumbery! Cucumber is a very light and refreshing flavor, and it's a great base for any number of cocktails! They even ship internationally!

3. Stationary. You might be thinking, why in the world would I want stationary? I could text, facetime, send pictures in an instance! But the way Mia and Luke communicate is a little old fashioned and a whole lot cute. Their written messages are adorable and romantic and as someone who lives for care packages, I hope it inspires everyone to slow down and send a hand written note! You can buy beautiful hand painted stationary. There are a number of Etsy shops that can even customize stationary for you. But a little hand written note to let someone know you're thinking about them can absolutely make someone's day! I'm a huge fan of these simple but elegant floral cards. You can grab a pack here!

I really hope you'll give this story a shot, and if you do, share with me what you thought!
